“Introduction to the end of an argument / Speaking for oneself, Speaking for others” by Jayce Salloum and Elia Suleiman
In a video-collage made of American, European, Israeli and self produced footage shot in the West Bank and Gaza strip, Jayce Salloum and Elia Suleiman draw a striking picture of the representation of the Middle East, Arab culture, and the Palestinian people produced by the West. Lebanese-Canadian artist Salloum and Palestinian, New York based filmmaker Suleiman edit scenes of clichés and stereotypes from Hollywood movies, news coverage, tourism agencies or music videos, which correspond to the conflict in Israel, into an opulent 40-minute work of image, text and sound tracks. With critique, humour and sensitivity, they formulate an intense examination of construed ideas of a whole culture and their far-reaching implications on political and social decisions. The fact that this topic didn’t lose any of its relevancy after 25 years, links to our current exhibition On Remote Control 2.
In english and arabic with english subtitles.
The screening is part of Kino der Kunst Festival.
