Ergül Cengiz

Ergül Cengiz is a freelance visual artist. In 2004, together with Henrieke Ribbe and Kathrin Wolf, she founded the artists' group 3 Hamburger Frauen, which mainly works on ephemeral murals in the Medieum. In their collaborative projects, the 3 Hamburger Frauen deal intensively with aspects of artistic and female identity. In her own works (silhouettes, installations, paintings) Ergül Cengiz is searching for the balance of visual habits between Orient and Occident. 

Ergül Cengiz studied at the Mimar Sinan University, Istanbul; Academy of Fine Arts Munich; HfbK Hamburg. In 2016/17, she received the one-year project scholarship of the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, Science and the Arts. She gave guest lectures at the HfG Offenbach and the HfBK Hamburg. Her work has been shown at Städtische Galerie Böblingen (2019); Kunstverein Hamburg (2018); Kunstverein Wasserburg AK 68 (2017), Kasseler Kunstverein, Kassel (2009); ar/ge Kunst Galerie Museum Bozen (2007), among others. In 2020 she realised BUNTE STEINE FÜR WEISSENBERGE Kunst am Bau for the Saga Wohnungsgenossenschaft Hamburg (2020).
