Introduction and discussion with Goda Budvytytė, Viktorija Rybakova, moderated by Post Brothers

As part of the project dissolving matter & value, interdisciplinary artist Viktorija Rybakova and designer Goda Budvytytė will present their recently published book “El Plástico, the Sun that lives inside the Rock” in conversation with writer and curator Post Brothers. Their ongoing research concerns the long history and evolution of plasticity, from metamorphic rocks, clay, and amber, to natural rubber, synthetic plastics, and new polymers. This publication is an observation on evolution of material plasticity, it is a story about plastic whose native land is Mesoamerica. It explores the past, present, and future of plastic through encounters with various people—a weaver from Oaxaca, a taxi driver, a sociologist working on trash collection in Mexico City and the owner of a small family-run plastic factory. The book contains a polymorphous project resulting from several years of research by Rybakova and Budvytytė, it also includes a conversation between philosophers Kristupas Sabolius and Catherine Malabou, and essays by Post Brothers and Chris Fitzpatrick.


Post Brothers works as curator and writer. He holds a Master degree in Curatorial Practice from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco and a BFA from Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver. From 2016 until 2019, he was curator at Kunstverein München, Munich and has curated numerous exhibitions internationally. Also, his essays and articles have been published in numerous art journals, artist publications, and exhibition catalogues around the world, and he regularly participates in exhibitions with text-based contributions, and lectures throughout Europe. Currently he is Visiting Associate Professor at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen and is based in Kolonia Koplany, a village near Białystok, Poland.
