How do we spend our time? What is the relationship between the time and resources used to earn a wage and the opportunities and needs to be socially, culturally and politically active? To what extent can practices of solidarity, self-care, resistance and commitment be linked to deregulated and precarious forms of employment?
The exhibition series PART TIME COMMITMENT SERIES explores the definition and significance of work for current and future social models. Based on the concept of the standard employment model, an initial project phase in summer 2023 focussed on the conditions and realities of atypical employment.
From June 2024, four chapters will be dedicated to the question of how time is allocated to which activities on a daily basis - but also from the perspective of biographies. Where are the boundaries and contradictions between social engagement, self-employed work, dependent wage labour, political engagement, cultural production, self-care and self-sufficiency? What is the relationship between working collectively or as a group and the sustainable use of resources and solidarity- based cooperation?
The chapters of PART TIME COMMITMENT SERIES are developed by various collectives and groups and see themselves as open experimental arrangements, working laboratories, shared spaces for research, discussion and experience.
Excursions in the form of lectures, discussion rounds and reading groups invite further contextualisation and exchange.
