for months now, we as the new team of Lothringer 13 Halle have been working on projects that emerge in exchange with international and local practitioners. Our program is based on close collaboration. It initiates temporary communities and is built on artistic productions that are developed at Lothringer 13. In workshops, exercises and reading groups, we want to re-connect with the specific history of Lothringer 13 as an exhibition space but also as a place of production. First investigations and activations of the space were supposed to become public in spring. Then the lockdown happened.
With all of this in mind, we are very happy to be able to invite you to the kick-off for our program at Lothringer 13 Halle on 25 June 2020. Under the title This house is not a home, the transdisciplinary initiative K invites over 40 guests from different fields to transform the exhibition space into a domestic setting which is at once usable and simulated. In this furnished exhibition structure, models, forms and practices of living together can be tested from an artistic perspective.
The format also addresses the preconditions, agency and quality of social encounters. It subsequently asks questions that have dominated public discourse and led to controversial discussions over the past weeks and months. How can we find new politics of being and working together at a time when intimate as well as open gatherings cannot be realized with the same degree of normality as before? How can spaces emerge that integrate presence and absence, proximity and distance whilst enabling the experience of a shared here and now?
Together with us, K rises to the challenge of working with the concept of shared physical space, not only despite the current situation but also explicitly in reaction to it, integrating current developments into their collaborative work.
We invite you to accompany us on this path over the coming weeks and months – here, on our new website, and at a distance of two arm’s length in the space.
